Review of the Type O Negative show in Dallas, TX

By: fireghost's bro

Well, Tawana reported Dallas to be stuck up. I didn't go due to unfortunate cirucumstances, but here is my bro's report:

Whoa! I wish you could have seen this! Here's a description of the whole phenomenon:
The concert was actually not at the Bomb Factory, but at a club across the street; at the last minute the Bomb Factory decided to do some renovations or something. Getting there was a little tricky, as I used Canton street as my navigational reference, only to find that it was a one-way street part of the length, going the other way. But, I still arrived with a good hour to spare. It was not hard finding the club, the Deep Ellum, because of the line of Goths standing around and the nearby bus blasting out "In Praise of Bacchus." It was a little different than the album arrangement, so it very well may have been the group jamming before the show.

There were two opening acts. I got to see the first one really close. I don't know the names of either group. (Pist-on and LOA) But, the first one had a lady lead singer, who was a real screamer. She was great! At times, she was practically shouting into my face, with my hair blowing back. About half-way into her show, she got the mosh pit revved up and going several rows of users behind me, so I would feel this big crunch of users behind me, rolling the crowd around in a flailing stirr. Some of Type-O's stage props and stuff were already in place--the microphones and the stage in general was wrapped in vines, with pumpkins scattered, and a backdrop resembling the CD disc for October Rust.

Then, by about 11:30, Type O Negative came on. The room went really, really dark, and Chains of Limbo came on. The band began "Prelude to Agony", backlit. Peter Steele then addressed the crowd, and they played "Love You to Death", followed by "Cinnimon Girl." Overall, they played more songs off Bloody Kisses than anything else--it seemed almost more like a show for that album; the only other October Rust song was "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend." Not that the Bloody Kisses songs were bad--quite the contrary. For "Too Late (Frozen)", they blasted the stage with snow and fluff--it was a spooky effect. And, of course they did "Christian Woman", with the whole crowd joining in. It was a cigarette lighter moment, and I remembered to bring one. "Gravity" was excellent, and it was quite appropriate to see the mosh pit nearby with users throwing themselves around in a swirling pattern. Other songs I remember include "Kill All the White users"--a really great one with the crowd, "Summer Breeze / Set Me On Fire"--during the second verse, Peter Steele used the demo version lyrics ("Kenny Hickey lying on the sidewalk, Devil music from the house next door/ So I step over his vomit...), and a cover of the Doors' "Light My Fire"--which Peter said was originally written about the time his mother and father decided to make love. It ended with "Black No. 1."

He announced as the band was done that his deodorant had run out, and thanked us. He was very courteous and respectful of his fandom--"Without you we are nothing." And, he left with a rather humorous note. "As the Misfits had said before, Texas is the reason the president's dead."

And under his next message of "more remembered 'Steelisms'":
Peter Steele stopped to take a drink between songs. (It was, by the way, Heinikan, the official beer from the Massacre of Evermore!) He said, "I'd love to share this with you, but I'm a Republican. Nothing's for free."
*The "Massacre of Evermore" refers to a Led Zep bootleg I heard in which the band totally killed "The Battle of Evermore" after exceeding their toxidity limitations.

And even more reports/rumors:
He confirmed that he heard the band practicing "In Praise of Bacchus" on their tour bus.
Also, the lead singer of came out claiming "You guys were expecting a tall dark-haired vampire?" And she further claims to have slept with him. Ok, everyone hold up your hands who hasn't..... Also, he was wrong about the Heinikan, it was red wine. He got thirty lashes for that claim.
