Review of the Type O Negative show in Ft. Lauderdale FL
By: Rav
I don't usually do reviews,but it was so bad,I have to. :)
I was not familiar with either opening bands material, so I only have a live
perspective, and unfortunately a lot of bands don't quite make the transition
from tape to live...
Drain...Throughout their set,I wanted to scream "Bring back Manhole!!!"
Stuck Mojo... Well, the leadsinger didn't seem cocky to me. I wanted to thump
the bassist over the head, give the guy a guitar and he becomes an idiot. He
had the dorkiest stage antics, it's safe to say, that I have ever seen. All in
all, I liked them ok, they weren't no Life Of Agony, but they were decent. They
kind of had a Cypress Hill thing going.
The setlist for Type O was much the same. I swear the show is scripted. Can't
you picture Peter writing dialogue around the setlist and memorizing it, to
complete the whole stage show ambience? Anyway, I will put down the set
list, kind of do a song by song review. But, it will seem shabby, because I'm a
bull, not a goat. ;)
(songs listed as close to order as they're gonna get)
**Prelude to Agony- If I had a gun,I would have shot Peter for rolling the
R's and singing rather than screaming half the song. Unfortunate, this being
one of my favorite top five TON tunes.
**Pain-I couldn't believe it, they got into Origin tracks, and not a single you
suck from the audience...
**Love You to Death-they seemed to have rearranged this one, and I did not
care for the new version.
**Cinnamin Girl-The keyboards which make up part of the melody were totally
lost. However, he did do the low notes... ;) (WooHoo!)
**Kill All the White users-with special guests introduced as the guys from
Stuck Mojo, I guess they don't have names...You could tell who had the
original BK release, and who had the digipack....
**Light My Fire-I think Peter forgot his intro lines here....Snicker.....
**In Praise Of Bacchus-Sounded very whiney....Intro-ed with a sad attempt at
the War Pigs riff.So bad in fact, that maybe it wasn't the War pigs riff at
all....
**Gravity-This song kicked ass, my fave off of Origin, the blond standing next
to me was giving me the strangest looks, I'm assuming that it was because I
was singing along. She had a lost look on her face. LOL
**Christian Woman-the first song they played that my blond neighbor
recognized.
It was nice to hear them do the whole thing, last time they ommitted the J.C.
part. And once again, he hit the really low notes. He also totally screwed up
verse two, he actually stopped when it became beyond repair and let the crowd
sing for him, then thanked them for covering his mistakes,I think I was the
only one who noticed.
**Too Late:Frozen intro-ed with Suffrage City (a nice Bowie surprise) and then
the Iron Butterfly Ina Gadda Davida, I never spell it right....And of
course, Aqualung in the middle. This song has always been my favorite live, it
is the only one they don't wimpify. I too (not sure who said it first) was in
absolute hysterics watching Peter get the frozen effects by tapping on his
throat. Well worth my 15 dollars. LOL. Oh yeah, insert snow machines...
**Wolf Moon-They should have left this one on the album... They couldn't pull
it off as a live song. Peter changed the lyrics, but I couldn't understand what
they were???
**My Girlfriend's Girlfriend-The keyboards need to be changed ::blech:: I
have never been quite fond this one.
**They closed with Black No 1. Which was obviously my blond neighbors
favorite, as she actually danced and sang along.
The Theatre had these big boxes on either side, and I was sitting on one,and
I'm sure as the majority of us here are diehard fans from SD&H through OR
that you guys can understand the total urge I had to stand on this box where
I could be seen and shout "you suck," and we all know the guys would have
appreciated it....Unfortunately I fear the goth crowd and or groupies would
have been on me instantaneously. Definitely the worst TON show I have ever
been to. Of course I am probably spoiled cause everyone knows that mosts bands
play best when close to home. :)
